During my trip to Paraguay I identified a problem that I was able to address in my LI815 class – the connection between democracy and information and communication technologies (ICTs) in a developing country. I researched pertinent material for the paper and was able to add some personal insight as well. As part of the technological requirements for the course, I posted the paper as part of a website/blog. This enabled me to add some pictures from our trip and provide links to Paraguay related sites that directly connect to the material in the paper.
This was one of the first assignments I completed at SLIM. It has also stayed with me throughout my journey – I am fascinated with the topic of “tagging” and user involvement as distinct parts of Web 2.0. LibraryThing provided me with my first real glimpse of how Web 2.0 and libraries could be combined. This power point was also used as the basis for a poster presentation at the most recent KLA/MPLA conference in Wichita. I know that I will continue to return to this topic throughout my career.
