Mold is considered to be a big issue when it comes to house management; this is largely down to its capability of growing anywhere. Mold biologically is a form of fungus that grows in the presence of moisture. There are different varieties of mold that can grow and some of them are harmless while others in extreme cases; can be fatal. In this article, we have looked at three harmful mold varieties.
1. Acremonium Acremonium is a type of mold that grows in locations that have high levels of condensation. So air coolers, humidifiers and cooling coils are a prime location for acremonium to grow. Acremonium is a harmful mold variety that is white, pink or orange and is known to be powdery. The mold falls under the category of toxigenic mold and can affect the immune system and a number of organs. The mold is also carcinogenic in nature meaning that it can cause cancer in adverse conditions and impair brain functioning. 2. Alternaria Alternaria is an allergic mold that is known to rapidly spread when it starts to grow. It is one of the most common forms of mold and has a velvet-like structure. Typically the mold has a brown or green colour and grows in places where there is moisture; so check under the sink and in the bathroom for this mold. The mold causes asthma and other respiratory defects. 3. Aspergillus Aspergilli along with Alternaria is one of the most common types of mold that can infest a building. Aspergillus is said to have over 185 different species of mold under its name, and each of them tends to have their own biological properties. Due to the vast number of species, it is difficult to narrow down on the harmful effects that the mold causes. In general, they are allergic in nature and thus cause asthma and respiratory issues. But there are some species of Aspergillus that tend to be carcinogenic in nature. The mold is flask-shaped and tends to form bonds while it grows and thus gives the impression of being wall-like if its let to grow without check. Due to the vast number of species, Aspergillus will be difficult to identify based on colour. The colour of the mold is dependent on the environment that it grows in and the type of species. The mold is also the most common type of fungal infection that troubles houses and buildings in the United States of America.
